High cadence observations of a global coronal wave by EUVI/STEREO

چکیده

We report a large-scale coronal wave (so-called “EIT wave”) observed with high cadence by EUVI onboard STEREO in association with the GOES B9.5 flare and double CME event on 19 May 2007. The EUVI instruments provide us with the unprecedented opportunity to study the dynamics of flare/CME associated coronal waves. The coronal wave under study reveals deceleration, indicative of a freely propagating MHD wave. Complementary analysis of the associated flare and erupting filament/CME hint at wave initiation by the CME expanding flanks, which drive the wave only over a limited distance. The associated flare is very weak and occurs too late to account for the wave initiation. Subject headings: shock waves — Sun: corona — Sun: flares

The kinematics of a globally propagating disturbance in the solar corona

The kinematics of a globally propagating disturbance (also known as an “EIT wave”) is discussed using Extreme UltraViolet Imager (EUVI) data from Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory (STEREO). We show for the first time that an impulsively generated propagating disturbance has similar kinematics in all four EUVI passbands (304, 171, 195, and 284 Å). In the 304 Å passband the disturbance show...

3D Coronal Slow Modes: Towards 3D Seismology

On 2008 January 10, the twin Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory (STEREO) A and B spacecraft conducted a high time cadence study of the solar corona with the Extreme UltraViolet Imager (EUVI) instruments with the aim of investigating coronal dynamics. Observations of the three-dimensional propagation of waves within active region coronal loops and a measurement of the true coronal slow mode...

پرتاب‌های بزرگ و کوچک مقیاس جرم از تاج خورشید

The large and small Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) and mini-CMEs are observed by the Extreme Ultra Violet Imager (EUVI) on the Solar Terrestrial Relation Observatory (STEREO). These eruption events are usually associated with dimming and wave-like brightenings. Here, the images of the full sun on 26 Apr 2008 with STEREO spacecraft (behind) with the cadences of 10 minutes and 150 seconds and pix...

Relation Between the 3 D - Geometry of the Coronal Wave and Associated CME During the 26 April 2008 Event

We study the kinematical characteristics and 3D geometry of a large-scale coronal wave that occurred in association with the 26 April 2008 flare-CME event. The wave was observed with the EUVI instruments aboard both STEREO spacecraft (STEREO-A and STEREO-B) with a mean speed of ∼ 240 km s−1. The wave is more pronounced in the eastern propagation direction, and is thus, better observable in STER...

Spectroscopic Diagnostics of Polar Coronal Plumes

Polar coronal plumes seen during solar eclipses can now be studied with space-borne telescopes and spectrometers. We briefly discuss such observations from space with a view to understanding their plasma characteristics. Using these observations, especially from SUMER/SOHO, but also from EUVI/STEREO, we deduce densities, temperatures, and abundance anomalies in plumes and inter-plume regions, a...
